Strengthen Financial Systems, Controls & Compliance - 40%

  • Build and institutionalize the organization’s finance function as the first Director of Finance, including strengthening in-house accounting capacity and core financial infrastructure.
  • Strengthen and standardize internal financial systems and processes, including accounts payable, vendor payments, purchasing, grant financial tracking and compliance, staff funding allocations, and reporting tools.

  • Financial Stewardship, Controls & Compliance. You ensure accurate financial management across budgets, grants, and restricted funds, maintaining strong internal controls, checks and balances, audit readiness, and reliable financial reporting that supports organizational accountability and stewardship.
  • Participatory Budgeting & Financial Accessibility. You have led or co-led budgeting processes in partnership with staff and leadership teams, translating organizational priorities and program needs into structured financial plans and tradeoffs. You also make financial tools, budgets, and resources accessible and easy to understand so staff can use them in day-to-day decision-making.
  • Adaptive & Movement-Aligned Financial Leadership. You are able to navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities with flexibility and sound judgment, recognizing that community conditions, political moments, and organizing realities may require responsive financial decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Cultural Humility & Empathy. You operate with deep respect for the communities of color - recognizing that financial decisions are not neutral. You ground your work in equity, lived experience, and accountability, bringing empathy and cultural humility into how you collaborate, communicate, and make financial decisions with staff, members, and stakeholders.
