EDMG is a policy and research consulting firm for change makers aiming to incorporate evidence-based research and analysis into their work. We are a client driven firm that puts co-ownership front and center of the project design process, while maintaining objectivity throughout the data collection and reporting process.  

We work with foundations, non-profits, universities, advocates, and elected officials to co-produce and implement public policy research solutions to improve the quality of life for disenfranchised groups and California residents. We are a multi-issue, mixed methods research group and we specialize in the areas of inequality, social change and innovation, early and K-12 education, health, and mental health.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Partner & Co-Founder, the Research Associate Consultant supports and manages research and policy projects from start to finish-–from planning and client coordination, to writing, visualization, and data analysis. 
 

What a Typical Week Looks Like

What You Will Do: 

Research Project Management - 30%

  • Coordinate timelines, agendas, and deliverables across multiple active projects using tools such as Asana.
  • Provide quality assurance for data accuracy, writing clarity, and visual consistency.

Research & Data Analysis - 25%

  • Review literature and existing research to inform project insights.
  • Design and apply protocols for interviews and focus groups; conduct interviews as needed.
  • Manage and analyze datasets using Excel, Dedoose, STATA (or similar).
  • Synthesize data from surveys, interviews, and public sources (e.g., ACS, CDE).

Data Visualization - 20%

  • Design visual products—slide decks, graphs, one-pagers—that clearly communicate findings using tools like Tableau, Datawrapper, Airtable, and Mural.

Writing & Narrative Framing - 25%

  • Draft memos, briefs, reports, and research summaries that inform and engage diverse audiences.
  • Conduct literature reviews and compile background research on policies, programs, and community trends.
  • Support external communications, including grant writing, talking points, and narrative framing of data.

Who You Are:

  • You are knowledgeable about policy, especially related to education, health, and housing in California.
  • You excel in data analysis and visualization; interpret both qualitative and quantitative data using relevant tools and platforms.
  • You are an effective communicator, with strong writing skills that clearly convey complex research and policy insights to diverse audiences.
  • You are detail-oriented and highly organized, able to manage multiple projects and priorities efficiently and independently.
  • You center cultural humility, with sensitivity to racial equity issues and the ability to engage with diverse communities; Spanish fluency is a plus.

Benefits: This is a contract position, and therefore not eligible for benefits. 

Work Environment: This is a hybrid role, with some in-person engagements (i.e., focus group operations) in Los Angeles, CA each month.
