About Uproot Talent & The BLOC Network: Uproot Talent is an award-winning, Latina-owned executive search and learning experience firm committed to uprooting and reimagining how mission-driven organizations recruit and hire. Since our founding in 2022, we’ve placed more than 35 leaders into positions of impact — with over 92% identifying as leaders of color and 84% as women of color.

Our flagship program, the BLOC (Bold Leaders of Color) Network, is a vibrant career platform and community built to provide Bold Leaders of Color with access to values-aligned job opportunities, professional development, mentorship, and a powerful peer network. The BLOC Network connects diverse talent — from early career to the c-suite — with organizations in need of bold, equity-centered leadership.

The Opportunity: Are you passionate about expanding access to meaningful career opportunities for historically marginalized leaders? Are you a current student, curious about a future career in talent, recruitment, or people strategy?

We’re seeking a Fall BLOC Career Access & Opportunity Intern to power our career platform and national job board—researching values-aligned roles, surfacing equity-focused opportunities, and helping expand a growing community of Bold Leaders of Color.

As part of the internship, you’ll gain direct exposure to the social impact recruiting and talent engagement landscape, working closely with Uproot Talent’s Founder & Partner. You’ll also have the chance to join search team meetings, strategy sessions, and learn the behind-the-scenes of talent sourcing and network building.

What You’ll Do:

  • Job Sourcing & Curation: Proactively research and identify relevant job openings from mission-driven organizations, including nonprofits, foundations, school districts, grassroots, and community-based organizations nationwide.
  • Market Analysis: Develop a sharp understanding of hiring trends, in-demand skills, and leading organizations in the social impact space.
  • Quality Control: Vet each opportunity to ensure it aligns with our values and standards for equity-centered, impactful work.
  • Content Creation: Translate research and insights into clear, engaging, and accessible content (including graphics) for the BLOC community.
  • Resource Hub Co-Building: Curate toolkits, guides, and materials to support and empower BLOC members, organizing them into a growing resource library.
  • Talent Engagement: Connect with professionals and organizational leaders to share the benefits of the BLOC Network, resources, and career opportunities.

Who You Are:

  • You believe in Uproot Talent’s mission and values: radical candor, authenticity, continuous learning, and anti-oppressive hiring.
  • You are a current undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate in Los Angeles, CA with a strong interest in talent, recruitment, or human resources.
  • You’re a proactive researcher with a “detective’s mindset” — you love the hunt and uncovering hidden gems.
  • You sweat the details, using systems to stay organized and accurate.
  • You have strong written communication skills and clarity in expression.
  • You’re a self-starter who thrives in a remote environment and manages time effectively.

What You’ll Gain:

  • Professional Development: Mentorship and training from the Uproot Talent team, plus access to exclusive BLOC workshops and events.
  • Career Coaching & Support: Individualized guidance on your job search materials, including resume and LinkedIn optimization.
  • Network Expansion: Build meaningful connections with professionals and organizations across the social impact sector.
  • Mission Impact: See your work in action as Bold Leaders of Color (BLOC) connect with their next opportunities.
  • Paid Internship: Compensation at $25/hour (20 hrs/month).

How to Apply: Please submit your resume and response to two questions, no cover letter. Applications for the Fall cohort are due by Friday, September 12 at 5pm PST. We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis, and encourage folks to submit their application promptly.
